As demand for travel rises, cumulative TSA checkpoint travel numbers are approaching those reported at this time last year, and are more than doubling those reported in 2020. Despite a drop in air travel at the end of the summer, Harteveldt said airlines are pleased with the advance bookings they’re receiving from international points of sale outside the United States.
The influx of international visitors is expected to provide a significant boost to local economies and industries such as tourism, retail, and hospitality, which suffered greatly during the pandemic. Global travelers are likely to bring an influx of spending ahead of the holiday season, according to Harteveldt, because international travelers tend to spend money in the neighborhood where they stay.
